Lessons We Learned after 1 Year of Hosting

As we reflect on our fist year of hosting guests at Sojourn Chalet Pocono Mountains, we are filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment, gratitude and appreciation, despite the many challenges that came our way.

The first year of hosting was both exciting and challenging. As vacation rental owners, we learned many valuable lessons during that first year. We would like to reflect on some of those lessons in this blog post.

Lesson #1: Set Realistic Expectations

It's essential to set realistic expectations for the guests, that is being transparent about the property's features, location, and amenities. We learned not to oversell our property or make promises we can not keep. To prevent disappointment and ensure a positive guest experience we found that we had to be honest and upfront with all our guests.

Lesson #2: Communication is Key

Communication is a crucial component to our a success as a vacation rental business.

Our gusts appreciated our promptness and availability to answer their questions or concerns. We found it essential to provide guests with all the necessary information they need before their arrival, such as check-in instructions and any other details about the property they need to know.

Lesson #3: Attention to Detail

Details matter in a vacation rental. Besides always ensuring that our property is clean, well-maintained, and fully stocked with all the essentials, we leave small personalized touches like fresh flowers or a welcome basket for our guests. These small things make a big difference in creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Lesson #4: Be Flexible

Being flexible is crucial when hosting guests at a vacation rental. Sometimes things don't go as planned, and you may need to adjust your plans to accommodate your guests. For instance, if our guests arrived early and the property wasn't ready, we would allow them to leave their luggage at the property while they explore the area. Being flexible helped us handle unexpected situations with ease and maintain a positive guest experience.

Lesson #5: Continuous Improvement

The vacation rental industry is constantly evolving, and as a host, it's important to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices. Continuously seeking feedback from your guests and using it to improve our property and guest experience, was key in our success as hosts. We regularly updated and upgraded our property to meet the needs of our guests, as well as to help attract new guests and retain repeat visitors.

Lesson #6: Build Relationships with Guests

When it comes to creating a memorable experience for our guests, building relationships with them is crucial. Getting to know your guests on a personal level can go a long way in establishing a warm and welcoming atmosphere that they will truly appreciate. We made every effort to connect with our guests, which in turn created a sense of familiarity. Additionally, building strong relationships with our guests lead to positive reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations, which are invaluable for any hospitality business.

In conclusion, hosting guests at a vacation rental can be both challenging and rewarding.

Through it all, we have remained committed to providing our guests with the best possible experience and creating a safe and welcoming environment where they can feel at home. We are proud of what we have accomplished in our first year as hosts, and we look forward to welcoming many more guests to our vacation home.

We truly believe that hosting guests at Sojourn Chalet is not just a job, but a privilege, and we are honored to have the opportunity to share our home with travelers from around the world.
